The thrill of a traditional coaster may not be enough for a well worn theme park junkie. But maybe hunting scary creatures while dipping and diving will up the ante.
New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure theme park plans to open what it says will be the world's first interactive gaming roller coaster.
Riders of "Rage of the Gargoyles” will become virtual reality fighter jet pilots as they battle gargoyles in a one-of-a-kind adventure.
The track features 1,377-feet of plunging twists and turns while riders, who must be at least 13-years-old, don virtual reality headsets that display high-definition imagery. Riders “shoot” at gargolyles and can instantly lock on a moving target by moving their heads-- so people aren't flailing their arms at targets.
According to a Six Flags release, the coaster will take riders "twisting, turning and diving through the hazardous city streets — flying over battered skyscrapers, plunging underneath twisted bridges and dodging falling debris, all while shooting to repel these lethal demons and conquer the vicious master gargoyle.”
"Rage of the Gargoyles" will replace a virtual reality experience called the "The New Revolution" previously unveiled at six Six Flags parks across the country.
The ride is scheduled to open on Sept. 24 at the amusement park in Jackson, New Jersey.
