Merlin Entertainments—the world’s second largest themed entertainment operator behind Disney—unveiled plans Tuesday to build a $500 million Legoland complex in Goshen.
Developers estimate the park will bring 10,000 to 20,000 visitors to the area a day and create 500 new full-time jobs, reports Gannett media.
“We believe this location, just an hour from New York City and approximately three hours from Boston and Philadelphia, is the absolute perfect site for an entertainment brand as compelling as Legoland," John Ussher, the park's senior divisional director, said in a statement.
The full Legoland resort complex is set to feature over 50 rides, shows and attractions, plus a 250-room Lego-themed hotel aimed at families with children ages 2 to 12.
Annually, the company says it expects between 1.5 million and 2.5 million visitors a year which is in line with attendance figures at its two U.S. parks—Legoland California and Legoland Florida. Merlin Entertainments also operates Lego theme parks in the U.K., Germany, Malaysia and Denmark.
If plans for the 523 acre project are approved soon, Legoland New York could open as early as 2019.
