The long awaited Avatar theme park at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom will officially open May 27 in Orlando, but new details are continuing to emerge about the type of food experiences guests can expect to enjoy when the park opens its doors.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Satu’li Canteen (a fast-casual eatery coming to Pandora: The World of Avatar) will officially debut Disney’s new Mobile One system. The new software will use the current My Disney Experience app.
Visitors to the Satu’li Canteen will be able to order remotely and pay in advance using the mobile app. When they arrive at the restaurant, they’ll simply tap an “I’m here” button, which then provides a notification to the kitchen to prepare the ordered food.
Once the meals are ready, the app will alert the guests that it's time to collect their food at a specific window, allowing park goers to skip the regular lines of those waiting to order.
Although no specifics have been announced in terms of exactly where or when, Disney said they plan to spread use of the new mobile ordering system to more quick-service restaurants on the Orlando theme park property.
According to Disney, Mobile Order will only take credit cards but the Disney Dining Plan, which incorporates prepaid meals for guests staying in a Walt Disney World hotel, will be accepted at Pandora’s new establishment.
News of the ordering app was first announced on Disney’s Parks Blog. The post discussed the new restaurant’s look (a former mess hall changed into a “museum-like dining room” by a Pandora tour company) and menu (incorporating items like chili-spiced fried tofu, slow-roasted beef, quinoa, kale salad, sweet-potato hash and sustainable fish).
For thirsty guests, Pandora will also feature “Pongu Pongu” (Na'vi for "party party")-- a drink lounge with cocktails and beer.
