5…Explore the history of Charlotte
Discover the history of the city named for the consort of King George the Third. Charlotte was captured by the British during the Revolutionary War and held the final confederate cabinet meeting of the Civil War.
Experience history by panning for gold at the site of the nation’s first gold rush. Conrad Reed, who first discovered the mine, now named for him, sold a 17-pound nugget for a mere $3.50 before discovering it’s true value. Visit the Reed Gold Mine and learn about the history of gold mining and explore the historic area.
4…Visit the Charlotte Mint
Take a break from uncovering your own gold and visit the Charlotte Mint; one of only two mints in the United States to produce gold coins. The Mint was turned into a museum in 1936 and now houses the internationally renowned Mint Museum of Craft and Design.
The museum features collections of art spanning more than 4,500 years. The five-story, 145,000-square-foot facility includes collections of American, contemporary, and European art. Be sure to visit both the Randolph and Uptown buildings.
3…The race lives on
With more than 50 interactive exhibits, 1,000 artifacts, and 150,000 square feet of fun, families will enjoy learning more about America’s speediest sport at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Pedal-to-the-metal and make your way to the museum for a tour the hall for $18.95 per adult ticket. Experience realistic race simulators and pick up souvenirs at the Fame Gear Shop.
2…Work up an appetite
After touring the great city of Charlotte you are sure to work up an appetite. Visit Mac’s Speed Shop for some of Charlotte’s favorite dishes including an old Carolina traditional Brunswick stew served with Texas Toast. A well-known biker’s bar, Mac’s also has an expansive beer collection for adults to enjoy.
Satisfy your sweet tooth at Amelie’s French Bakery and Café for delicious cakes, macaroons and breads. Afterwards you will need to burn off some of those calories. Rent out the 14 person Party Peddler and bike around Charlotte with fellow visitors.

If you are looking for an outdoor adventure, visit the US National Whitewater center. Raft or kayak down the largest man-made white water river.
