Apple prepping blue, orange iPhones, report says

Word has it Apple is planning to bring some more color to its 2018 iPhone lineup.

Citing analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, 9to5Mac reports that a new, 6.5-inch premium OLED iPhone will come in black, white, and a new gold tone, while a more affordable 6.1-inch LCD model will be available in a bevy of shades: gray, white, blue, red, and orange.

That might bring back memories of 2013, when Apple released the low-cost iPhone 5c (pictured) in a variety of colors – green, yellow, blue, white, and pink – alongside its higher-end iPhone 5s, which only came in silver, gold, and space gray.

"It is very possible that when Kuo says 'grey' and 'white' he is referring to the Space Grey and Silver finishes as seen on the current iPhone X," 9to5Mac reports. It's unclear whether the red model will be another Product(RED) collaboration to raise awareness and capital for those affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.

As for what actually comes to pass, we'll just have to wait and see this fall.

Rumors indicate that Apple is planning to release three new iPhones this year—two with pricey OLED screens, and an entry-level LCD model. 9to5Mac says the LCD model will be priced around $700, while the 6.5-inch OLED "iPhone X Plus" will start at $999. Also reportedly on tap is an upgraded 5.8-inch iPhone X.

"With competitive pricing and the new attractive colors, Kuo is raising his predictions for iPhone sales," the report notes. "He believes Apple will see significant growth in year-over-year iPhone shipments, with up to 70 million new iPhone models sold in the fourth quarter of 2018."

Kuo expects the LCD model to be most popular of the three.

Meanwhile, Kuo in February predicted that Intel will supply all the modems Apple requires for its 2018 iPhone lineup, pushing Qualcomm out completely.
