PONTIAC, Mich. – A man who committed murder at age 11 pleaded guilty to drug possession Monday, less than two years after he was released from juvenile detention for the killing.
Nathaniel Abraham, 22, entered his plea to a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison at his Dec. 22 sentencing.
Assistant Oakland County Prosecutor Beth Hand said she will urge the court to impose a sentence at the high end of the sentencing guidelines.
"Obviously this is somebody who has no respect for the law or the courts," Hand said.
Abraham shot Ronnie Greene, 18, of Pontiac on Oct. 29, 1997, and was arrested just two days later. He was convicted of second-degree murder in November 1999 and sentenced to juvenile detention until his 21st birthday.
Sixteen months after his release, he was arrested at a Pontiac gas station with 254 Ecstasy pills in a bag in his trunk.
Defense attorney Byron Pitts unsuccessfully sought to exclude the pills from evidence, claiming the police search was unconstitutional.
Pitts said Abraham is upset about his likely prison time.
"He understands, as we all do, that we have to be productive members of society," Pitts told the Detroit Free Press.
