The wife of radio and TV host Danny Bonaduce has filed for divorce from the former "Partridge Family" child star after more than 16 years of marriage.

Gretchen Bonaduce, whose troubled marriage with the radio and TV host was fodder for a TV reality show, filed papers Tuesday in Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. She is seeking custody of their 6-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter, according to the documents.

The couple married Dec. 6, 1990, and separated April 9, the divorce petition said.

Danny Bonaduce announced the filing on Tuesday on KLSX-FM's "The Adam Carolla Show," the syndicated radio show where he works weekday mornings.

"I really don't want a divorce," he told Carolla. "I love her," he told Carolla.

Bonaduce, 47, said he received an e-mail Tuesday from his wife's attorney offering phone numbers for lawyers.

Bonaduce said his wife had been talking about breaking up for several months and he held out little hope for a reconciliation.

"There's no fight. Nobody's mad at anybody at my house," he said.

"It's been months of `You know, I think we'd be happier apart. I'm not happy, Danny.' But thing is, she has been friendly, and helpful," Bonaduce said.

It is Bonaduce's second marriage.

The 2005 reality show "Breaking Bonaduce" detailed his efforts to repair his relationship and recover from alcohol and other problems.
