Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Not Cool

Comedian and liberal commentator Bill Maher slammed what he called President Barack Obama's "fuddy-duddy act" when the president recently criticized high-tech consumer items.

President Obama said during a commencement address that iPads, iPods, and other gadgets are distractions that put new strains on democracy. Maher noted candidate Obama relied heavily on new media to get his message out: "How exactly does President 'Sanford and Son' think he got elected — by CB radio? The entire campaign was based on the Internet."

Maher went on to say Apple CEO Steve Jobs could do a better job running the country than the Obama administration.

Asylum Granted

President Obama's aunt has been granted asylum, allowing her to stay in the country. Zeituni Onyango is the half sister of President Obama's late father. Onyango's lawyer said President Obama was not involved in February's hearing of the case. The basis for her asylum request has not been made public.

She moved to the U.S. from Kenya in 2000 and was ordered deported in 2004, but never left the country.

Fit to Be Tied

And the Ohio Senate has removed a provision from a childhood obesity bill that would have required students to get at least 30 minutes of exercise per day while in school.

Groups representing teachers and school boards had the provision killed, saying it would cost too much and take time away from class instruction.
