President Bush shifted his Social Security (search) focus today, warning Americans of the personal costs they'll face if the system is not reformed. The president stressed that even if nothing is done with the system, Americans will see their guaranteed benefit cut by 30 percent. Carl Cameron has a report.
The Iranian representative to the U.N. said today that his government will continue to enrich nuclear materials, but said the purpose is strictly peaceful. The United States and others continue to be skeptical of Iran's intentions, however, and want Iran (search) to prove it is not attempting to develop nuclear weapons. Jim Angle will explain.
Iraq's first democratically elected government was sworn in today, with Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari (search) pledging to unite Iraq's ethnic factions and fight terrorism. Elsewhere in Iraq, U.S. forces recovered a letter that appeared to be addressed to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Mike Emanuel has the details.
A provision attached to an emergency-spending bill would make it harder for people to obtain driver's licenses. If Congress passes the provision, people would need four forms of I.D. to get a license, forcing DMV (search) employees to verify the documents. Molly Henneberg outlines what changes might be implemented.
According to transcripts of interviews conducted by members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, supporters of John Bolton (search) say he did not attempt to remove an intelligence analyst from his job. Instead supporters say, Bolton was effusive in his praise of his employees. James Rosen has the details.
Plus, we'll tell about a Florida judge who ruled that a 13-year-old girl at the center of an abortion controversy may terminate her pregnancy. Judge Ronald Alvarez (search) had blocked the girl's abortion last week until a psychological evaluation was completed. David Lee Miller has the details.
Jennifer Griffin has the story of a young Palestinian man who had wanted to be a suicide bomber, but was prevented from doing so. Members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades stopped his attempt in order to prevent the unraveling of the fragile 3 month old truce with Israel.
A Chicago based energy company wants to build 130 wind turbines near Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, but environmentalists are concerned because the proposed site is close to a wildlife preserve. Jeff Goldblatt has a report.
