Police say a man is suspected of shooting and killing a brother and sister before taking his own life in western Missouri.

Butler police said in a news release that they received a call about the shooting around 5 a.m. Friday.

Police said 25-year-old Carl E. Adams of Butler was found dead in the street, and 29-year-old Latonya L. Cooper of Butler was suffering from gunshot wounds inside a home. She was rushed to a hospital, where she died.

Her 7-year-old daughter was taken to a Kansas City hospital with cuts to her face, possibly from bullet fragments.

Police say 26-year-old Decarlos C. Newsom of Butler fled the scene. Police found his body several hours later in a pickup truck at his father's home in Butler.

Police are still trying to determine the motive.
