LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Authorities said a teenager faces harassment charges for calling people in the middle of the night and telling them that something horrible had happened to their loved ones.
Lincolnton police said 17-year-old Jeremy Womble made a series of prank calls over two months, pretending to be a doctor or other official.
Sergeant William Vaughn said Womble would tell people that friends or family members were dying in the hospital or had been in a terrible accident.
Vaughn said police traced complaints about the calls to Womble using subpoenaed phone records. The North Lincoln High School student was arrested last Friday and was released from jail on $8,000 bond.
