Among the companies whose shares are expected to see active trade in Tuesday's session are Discovery Laboratories Inc., H&R Block Inc. and Northwest Airlines Corp.

Analogic (ALOG) is expected to report earnings per share for the third quarter of 41 cents, according to analysts polled by Thomson First Call.

BMC Software (BMC) is seen posting a per-share result of 29 cents for the fourth quarter.

Finisar (FNSR) is expected to report per-share income of 3 cents for the fourth quarter.

H&R Block (HRB) is seen posting fourth-quarter income per share of $1.79.

Powell Industries Inc. (POWL) is expected to report second-quarter results.

Vail Resorts Inc. (MTN) is expected to post third-quarter per-share income of $1.73.

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. (ACS) said the Anchorage Police & Fire Retirement System has filed a shareholder derivative lawsuit naming the company as a nominal defendant, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission late Tuesday. The lawsuit alleges, in part, breaches of fiduciary duties related to stock option grants to certain executive officers during the period from 1995 through mid-2002.

ADC Telecommunications (ADCT) notified the Securities and Exchange Commission that it sees eventual synergies of additional pretax earnings ranging from $70 million to $80 million in connection with its proposed $2 billion acquisition of Andrew Corp. (ANDW) . ADC's preliminary target is to achieve 25% to 30% of the total synergies in the first year following the deal's close.

Ashworth Inc. (ASHW) reported second-quarter net earnings of $4.68 million, or 32 cents a share, down 2.8% from $4.81 million, or 34 cents a share, during the year-ago period. Adjusted pro forma earnings were 35 cents a share for the quarter. See After Hours column.

Boston Scientific Corp. (BSX) said it has priced a public offering of $1.2 billion of its senior notes.

Cooper Cos. (COO) earned $13.7 million, or 30 cents share in its fiscal second quarter, less than half the $27.8 million or 59 cents of the year-ago period.

Crane Co. (CR) said it has agreed to buy certain assets of Automatic Products international ltd., a privately held manufacturer of vending equipment, for $31 million.

Dell Inc. (DELL) said it will provide the servers that Google Inc. (GOOG) will use in the newest version of its Search Appliance product.

Discovery Laboratories Inc. (DSCO) said it has withdrawn its application for European approval of Surfaxin, a treatment of respiratory distress syndrome in premature infants. The decision was based on manufacturing issues that would prevent the company from meeting a timetable. Discovery said additional clinical trials may be required for Surfaxin's approval in Europe.

DSW Inc. (DSW) said revenue growth helped boost first-quarter net income to $17.5 million, or 40 cents a share, up from $6.98 million, or 25 cents a share, during the same period in the prior year.

Flushing Financial Corp. (FFIC) and Atlantic Liberty Financial Corp. (ALFC) after Tuesday's closing bell said the Office of Thrift Supervision has approved Flushing Financial's acquisition of Atlantic Liberty.

La-Z-Boy Inc. (LZB) said a writedown related to consolidation of its upholstery operations and restructuring charges ended with the company reporting a fourth-quarter loss. The company said its net loss was $10.3 million, or 20 cents a share, on sales of $508.4 million, as opposed to a year ago, when the company reported earnings of $20.8 million, or 40 cents a share, on sales of $565.6 million.

Lightbridge Inc. (LTBG) said it has agreed to renew its contract with Alltel Corp. (AT) . The new agreement extends Alltel's use of Lightbridge's credit- and risk-evaluation products and service until August 2008.

Martek Biosciences Corp. (MATK) reported a near doubling in income and a 26% jump in sales thanks to improved sales to its infant formula customers and increased productivity. The company said net income was $6.3 million, or 19 cents a share, on sales of $70.2 million.

Northwest Airlines (NWACQ) expressed its disappointment with a flight attendants union's 80% vote against the bankrupt airline's cost-cutting contract. Northwest said it is filing a motion asking for a preliminary injunction to prevent a threatened strike by the union. Also, the company said it has asked the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to rule on the company's motion to reject the existing flight attendant labor agreement and permit Northwest to impose new contract terms.

Nucor Corp. (NUE) said it is doubling its supplemental dividend, raising it to 50 cents a share from 25 cents a share. The move brings the total quarterly cash dividend to 60 cents a share.

Oil-Dri Corp. of America (ODC) said its board has approved a 5-for-4 stock split, to be effected by a stock dividend. The dividend is payable Sept. 8 to shareholders as of Aug. 4, according to the Chicago-based maker of cat litter.

Universal Forest Products Inc. (UFPI) said a unit has acquired certain assets of Dura-Bilt Mfg. Co., a roof and floor truss manufacturer based in Riverbank, Calif.

URS Corp. (URS) said it has won a 4-year contract with a maximum value of $19 million from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Veritas DGC Inc. (VTS) , citing sharply higher demand for the geophysical services it provides to the petroleum exploration business, reported fiscal third-quarter 2006 net earnings of $32.9 million, or 84 cents a share, compared with $18.4 million, or 52 cents, a year ago.

Wet Seal Inc. (WTSLA) said it has named President and Chief Executive Joel Waller as chairman of the board.
