FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – A fourth player from a Long Island high school football team will be charged in connection with sexual assault on teammates at a Pennsylvania (search) camp, a source close to the case said Wednesday.
The Mepham High School (search) sophomore will face three juvenile felony charges when charged next month, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
An attorney for two victims, Robert Kelly, said he was pleased with the development but disappointed it hadn't happened sooner. He said the boy has attended classes alongside the victims since the attacks last summer.
Earlier this month, a judge punished three Mepham players for sexually assaulting three younger teammates with a broomstick, golf balls and pine cones at the training camp in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Two of the teens were sentenced to detention facilities; the third was sentenced to probation.
Prosecutor Michael Lehutsky has said he won't comment on the case, and Judge Robert J. Conway (search) has closed the proceedings to the public.
