A Florida tourism official says a man found killed in his New York hotel room was the son of the founder of Miami Beach's famous Fontainebleau Hotel.

Rye Brook Police Chief Gregory Austin says the beaten body of 53-year-old Ben Novack Jr. was found Sunday at the Hilton Rye Town outside New York City.

Novack was head of Convention Concepts Unlimited and was from Fort Lauderdale. He had organized a weekend convention at the hotel.

Authorities say Novack's wife found him on the floor. Austin would not say whether she was a suspect.

Nikki Grossman of the Fort Lauderdale tourism bureau confirmed Novack's link to the Fontainebleau. The hotel has been featured in such movies as "Goldfinger" and "Scarface."
