JERUSALEM – Funk band Red Hot Chili Peppers canceled an Israeli concert planned for later this month due to security fears, an Israeli organizer said Tuesday.
The concert, originally scheduled for Aug. 28, had already sold over 15,000 tickets, public relations firm Ronit Arbel said.
The band notified concert organizer Shuki Weiss late Monday night that the concert would be postponed due to the current situation in the country and because of a U.S. State Department advisory recommending U.S. citizens not travel to Israel, the firm said in a statement.
According to the statement, the band told Weiss that they would "definitely come to Israel at a more suitable time."
Ticketholders would have their money refunded, the public relations firm added.
More than 650 people have been killed in the region since fighting erupted between Israel and Palestinians last September.
