Pro-Wrestling Gets 'Real'

Televised wrestling isn't just for actors anymore.

Coming soon to PAX TV and FOX Sports Net is "Real Pro-Wrestling," (search) where the competitors aren't faking anything.

"We think it's going to be fast and furious action," Olympic wrestling medalist Rulon Gardner (search), who will be doing commentary for the show, told FOX News on Thursday.

The show debuts Sunday on PAX at 4 p.m. EST and Wednesday at 3 p.m. EST on FOX Sports Net. Gardner said the point is to bring back traditional wrestling and expose people to the real nature of the sport.

"These are the moves that have been used for thousands of years in international wrestling," he told FOX. "It's one of the original Olympic sports. … This is the way wrestling used to be done."

The competing athletes will be Greco-Roman, freestyle and competitive wrestlers, he said. And they'll be shirtless — which will hopefully add women to the viewing audience.

But the main goal is just to attract wrestling fans, especially with the current popularity of high school wrestling.

"We hope we can bring back the fans," Gardner told FOX. "Youth wrestling is more popular than ever now. We want to bring those people back and show them what wrestling is like now and try to get them involved. Our goal is to promote wrestling."
