Authorities say three people including a pregnant woman and a 12-year-old girl were killed and two others were critically injured when their car ran into a tree during a possible drag race in northeast Los Angeles.

Lt. John Romero told KTLA TV that investigators believe the accident was the result of a three-car street race. He said police found victims and severed body parts in the street when they arrived.

Three men were thrown from a black Nissan Maxima, according to police. One died and two others were at a hospital in extremely critical condition.

The victims' identities haven't been released.

The wreck occurred at about 11 p.m. Wednesday night on Colorado Blvd. in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. Three blocks of the street remained closed hours later.
