MILLBROOK, N.Y. – Two Dutchess County men have been charged in the death of one member of a family found dead in a burned-out Fishkill home, police said Friday.
Mark S. Serrano, 29, and Charles W. Gilleo Jr., 31, were each charged with one count of second-degree murder in the death of Manuel "Tony" Morey, state police said.
No charges were filed in the deaths of the four other family members found in the home.
Tony Morey died from a single gunshot wound to the neck, according to autopsy reports. Tina Morey died of gunshot wounds to the chest and head, while Antonio, 13, and Adam, 10, died of multiple stab wounds. Ryan, 6, died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Serrano and Gilleo were arraigned and are being held in Dutchess County Jail.
A grand jury will begin hearing the case next week to determine whether further charges should be filed, police said.
Prosecutors and investigators did not disclose any possible motive at a press conference late Friday, but said they believe Serrano and Gilleo killed Morey, his wife and the couple's three children.
Police said they are not pursuing any other suspects or leads in the case.
Serrano was arrested Thursday night, and Gilleo was arrested Friday.
Police said the two men were partners with Tony Morey in a small, local drug dealing operation.
State police investigators said that Tony Morey was a known low-level crack cocaine dealer and user, and had an arrest record for minor offenses.
The family was found after a fire ravaged a wood-frame house Jan. 19 in the town of Fishkill, 60 miles north of New York City.
All five were dead before the house caught fire, said Dr. Kari Reiber, chief medical examiner in Dutchess County.
