LONDON – Rock singer Pete Doherty pleaded guilty on Wednesday to possession of cocaine and heroin.
The 26-year-old frontman for the rock group Babyshambles — whose on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss has made him a regular in the tabloids — was arrested Nov. 30 and formally charged on Monday.
During Wednesday's court hearing, prosecutor Bryony Darbyshire said police had spotted Doherty speeding in a Jaguar in London and that he appeared to be under the influence of "something," with his eyes glazed and pupils dilated.
Officers searched the car and found three packets containing 0.03 ounces of heroin and one packet of 0.008 ounces of cocaine, Darbyshire said.
The former Libertines singer was released on bail. His next court hearing is Feb. 8.
Moss, 31, lost valuable modeling contracts with H&M, Burberry and Chanel after the Daily Mirror tabloid in September published pictures of her apparently using cocaine in a west London music studio where Doherty, then her boyfriend, was recording with the Babyshambles.
She later went into a rehabilitation clinic in Arizona and was last seen skiing in Aspen, Colorado.
