Prosecutors have charged a 25-year-old parolee with murder in the shooting of a 4-year-old Los Angeles boy.

Prosecutors also charged Howard Astorga with the special allegations that the murder was to promote a street gang, that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm and that he has three prior convictions.

Astorga was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday afternoon. Prosecutors say he is a documented gang member.

Little Robert Lopez Jr. was walking with his sister last week when he was struck by a bullet fired during a confrontation between suspected gang rivals.
