FORT BRAGG, N.C. – One 82nd Airborne Division (search) paratrooper was killed and 25 were injured Thursday in a truck accident at Fort Bragg, the Army post said in a statement.
Fort Bragg (search) spokesman Spc. John French said he did not know whether the soldiers were aboard the truck or on foot at the scene of the accident, which happened about 6 p.m. at an intersection near a training area. He did not know the extent of the injuries.
The soldiers, members of the 82nd Airborne Division's 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (search), were on their way back to barracks from a training exercise, Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Fletcher said.
The name of the paratrooper who was killed was being withheld until family could be notified.
Two paratroopers were taken to off-base hospitals that said they could not release any information about them.
The remaining injured were brought to the base hospital. One had been admitted as of Thursday night, said spokeswoman Shannon Lynch.
"Some of the patients were ambulatory. It was just a varied amount," Lynch said.
