A father has admitted killing his 12-year-old autistic child by slashing the boy's throat and leaving the body in a bathtub, police officials said Wednesday.

The suspect, Jose Stable, reported the slaying of his son Ulysses at about 6:30 a.m. in their Bronx apartment, said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

When police officers arrived at the home, Stable, 50, "made statements to effect that, 'I have terminated the life of my autistic child,"' Kelly said.

The boy's nude body was discovered in a bathtub with no water. Also recovered were two knives possibly used in the attack, and a bucket with bloody water, police said.

The findings "indicated that (Stable) had attempted to clean up the crime scene," Kelly said.

Police said the father had taken custody of the boy at age 2, and that the mother lived elsewhere. They also said that based on statements by neighbors, they believe the victim was autistic.

Prosecutors had no information on charges.
