A Long Island woman suspected of drowning her three children in a bathtub has made her first court appearance since the deaths last month, pleading not guilty to murder charges.

Leatrice Brewer, 27, quietly uttered "not guilty" Thursday to a grand jury indictment charging her with three counts each of first- and second-degree murder.

Brewer was arrested Feb. 24 after telling police she had drowned her children — all younger than 6 — in their New Cassel apartment. After calling 911, Brewer jumped out her second-floor apartment window, injuring her back.

Her defense attorney had no comment Thursday. Brewer is due back in court March 27.
