SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Fashion model Beverly Peele was sentenced Tuesday to three years probation and 300 of hours of community service for stealing a woman's credit card information and charging thousands of dollars in merchandise.
Peele, who pleaded no contest to an identity theft charge in May, has paid the restitution, defense attorney Brian Oxman said.
The 31-year-old model, who has been featured in magazine ads and a George Michael music video, was arrested in December.
Prosecutors alleged that she charged furniture, a refrigerator, a washer and dryer and other items for her home on credit cards that were in a wallet she had found in a supermarket.
Peele returned the wallet to the owner but not before apparently taking down the numbers on the charge cards, investigators said.
Oxman maintains his client made an innocent mistake.
"This was an error on her part of using the wrong credit card number and she's made everyone whole," Oxman said after the sentencing.
