Missing Penn State Student Found Drowned in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Authorities in Tennessee say they've recovered the body of a 20-year-old Penn State student believed to have drowned in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Park spokesman Bob Miller tells WBIR-TV that the body of Nublan Zaki Norhadi was recovered Monday afternoon about 30 feet underwater in a pool beneath a waterfall. Officials aren't sure if he fell over the falls or was swimming below them.

The man, originally from Malaysia, was with a group of about 30 Penn State students who were visiting the park. He was reported missing Sunday evening.

The Abrams Falls are located at the end of a 2.5-mile trail popular with tourists. A 14-year-old boy drowned under the same falls in April 2004.
