Man Dumped From Wheelchair by Deputy Arrested Again

The quadriplegic man who was dumped from his wheelchair by a detention deputy was arrested Thursday for driving with a suspended license.

Controversy erupted after a video surfaced that showed the deputy ordering Brian Sterner to stand and then pushing him out of his wheelchair and onto the floor at Orient Road Jail. The deputy was charged with adult abuse and resigned.

After his arrest, Sterner was released and made a court appearance. A judge ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation, according to The Tampa Tribune.

Police say Sterner made an improper left turn that could have caused injury.

"It would have caused an accident if the cars had not hit their brakes," Laura McElroy, a police spokeswoman, told the Tribune.

Stern denies any wrongdoing. Knowingly driving with a suspended license is a misdemeanor.
