Like Peas in a Pod

What do economists and Saddam Hussein have in common? They both say bad things are coming the United States' way.

Economists because Smericans will stop shopping. And Saddam because our military guys will start over-reaching.

Economists say things are pretty weak here. Saddam says things are pretty strong there.

Economists say they've got data to prove the weak economic case they're making. Saddam says he's got nothing to hide to prove the no weapons here case that he's been making.

Economists say going after Saddam will make us only weaker. Saddam says going after him will only make him stronger.

Economists have a lousy track record but continue to make silly predictions. Saddam has an even lousier track record but continues to make promises.

Economists are amazing because experts put their faith in them, even with their foibles. Saddam's amazing because nations put their trust in him, even with his lies.

Economists hope we never mention the times they got it wrong. Saddam hopes we never mention the times he refused to do what was right.

They talk and say nothing. He talks and says nothing.

They use charts. He uses weapons.

I've had it up to here with them. Frankly, I've had it up to here with him.

And now it's time for all of us to wise up. Because, the spreadsheet has just hit the fan.
