The grass is always greener on the other side of … the electric fence?

Cops in Austria had to have been more than just a little surprised when they got called out to a suspected break-in — at a local prison.

When police arrived at Vienna's Josefstadt prison, they spotted Detlef Federsohn on the roof of the lockup, News.com.au reports.

Federsohn, 23, was released from the prison after serving two years for theft, but as fate would have it, there was no place like home in the big house for this confused crook.

"Life is so much easier on the inside. They feed you, do your washing and let you watch TV, which I can tell you is a lot more than my mother does," Federsohn said. "So I thought if I could sneak back in I would blend in with the others and the guards wouldn't notice."

BAY HARBOR ISLANDS, Fla. (AP) — Ruth Regina likes to say her business is going to the dogs, but it's actually just going to their heads.

A wig maker to the stars, Regina is now designing hairpieces for dogs — braids, curls, and extensions that can be dyed, highlighted and styled to order for pampered pets.

"I just see now that the little dogs are being carried around in Chanel carriers. They're wearing tiaras and sunglasses and visors," she says. "Dogs are just little people in fur coats."

Regina, an eighth-generation wigmaker, got her break during the golden age of television. She was the wig master and make-up artist for The Jackie Gleason Show, which filmed in Miami Beach from 1962-70. She was also in charge of beauty for the Miss Universe pageant from 1959-72, helping contestants look like they weren't wearing a lot of make-up when they were. Throughout the years, she also did hair and make-up for stars filming movies or television programs in South Florida.

The "Yappy Hour," a cascade of curls, can be custom made with synthetic or human hair and dyed any color, including pastels. With openings for ears and an elastic band to hold it in place, it's a good choice for hairless dogs, she explains.

The "Peek a Bow Wow" can fall down over part of a dog's face, giving a glamorous look reminiscent of 1940s movie star Veronica Lake. It's a good style for "any dog that has feeling, you know, a sexy dog," she explains.

"There's some dogs that have the come-hither look," she says.

There's also the "Rover R-r-r-rug," straight hair that can be used as bangs, and "Buddy Braids," good for a dog with a little hair since they are held on with clips, Regina says.

Regina has not sold the canine hairpieces yet, although she says she has potential customers, like pet shops, lined up.

'I Told Him to Get a Job'

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A 60-year-old Davenport pawn shop owner fought off a would-be robber less than half his age by beating him up, police said.

Preston Hughes is a former Marine and the owner of PJ’s Pawn Shop.

Around 11 a.m. Saturday, police said, Michael Anthony Posten, 18, walked into Hughes’ shop wearing a hooded sweatshirt, gloves and a white fabric over his face with the eyes and mouth cut out. He was allegedly carrying a hand gun.

Police said Posten demanded cash from the register but Hughes wasn’t fooled.

“I knew it was him. He pointed a gun at me, although I’ve learned it wasn’t a real gun. But I didn’t know that at first.”

Hughes said he threw money on the counter, but then Posten told him to lock the front door. Hughes said Posten then began pushing him to the back room.

Hughes said he was then struck in the back of the head with the gun.

“That made me mad,” Hughes said. “I pulled his mask off with my left hand and gouged him in the face with the keys I had in my right hand.”

Hughes then took the gun away from the teen and beat him up.

“I told him, you’re not going to try and rob me and think I’m gonna play a game,’ ” Hughes said.

“You just get tired of some of this stuff,” he added.

He said that Posten kept telling him he needed the money.

“I told him to get a job,” he said. Both Posten and Hughes were taken to Genesis Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Posten is charged with robbery in the first-degree and was being held Saturday night in the Scott County Jail on $32,500 bond.

He'll Have His Toast With a Side of Crazy, Thanks

WELLINGTON, Fla. (AP) — A Wellington man is selling his toast on e-Bay.

Gregg Prior created a masterpiece on toast, inspired by the new "Snakes On A Plane" movie featuring Samuel L. Jackson.

He's not giving away the secret, but says the creation included butter, knives, fire and a little bit of plutonium. A plane and two snake heads are featured on the piece of toast, which had over 20,000 hits and has gone for more than $100. The bidding started at just five cents.

This isn't Prior's first toast venture and it likely won't be his last — especially if there's a "Snakes on a Plane Two."

Every Good Crook Has a Calling Car(d) ...

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — William Bruno thought he had it all figured out when he allegedly set out to rob a Riveria Beach home.

Police said Bruno, 22, planned rob the home, load the loot into his car, steal the victim's SUV and then return to the house to retrieve his car.

What Bruno didn't plan on was the victims coming back before he was able to move his vehicle. Inside the car, police found all the stolen goods and plenty of information — including the car's registration — that linked Bruno to the crime.

Bruno was arrested and charged with armed burglary, grand theft auto, possession of a controlled substance and grand theft. He was released on bond from Palm Beach County Jail.

Police believe Bruno may also be responsible for other thefts in the area.
