A 30-year-old mother from New York City is suing a major cosmetics company after she was reportedly burned and scarred by a stretch mark cream.

Milka Betances claims Avon’s “Anew Clinical Professional Stretch Mark Smoother” burned her so badly she had to go to the hospital for treatment, New York’s Daily News reported.

Betances, who bought the cream from an Avon dealer last year, said she felt immediate pain when she rubbed the cream on her stomach.

"It was very painful, and she's had to seek substantial medical treatment," Betances' attorney, Andrew Friedman, told the newspaper. "It left her with scarring instead of making her more beautiful."

The product, designed to erase stretch marks caused by pregnancy, sells for $25 on Avon’s Web Site.

So far, there have been no comments from Avon representatives.
