12/17/01:  Al Qaeda fighters appear to be defeated in their last stronghold, the Tora Bora mountains. Some Al Qaeda troops were reportedly crying upon being captured, begging not to be turned over to the United States. 12/16/01:  The last pocket of Al Qaeda resistance appears to be crumbling at Tora Bora. Some groups of fighters loyal to Usama bin Laden are said to be surrendering, and others running or dying at the hands of tribal fighters and U.S. bombs.
