12/17/01: Al Qaeda fighters appear to be defeated in their last stronghold, the Tora Bora mountains. 12/16/01: The last pocket of Al Qaeda resistance appears to be crumbling at Tora Bora. 11/28/01: Kunduz, the northern Afghan city recently liberated from Taliban control, is still far from safe. The jails are emptied of their Taliban prisoners, but gangs of armed teen-agers roam the streets with nothing constructive to do. The reality of life after the Taliban is far from pretty.
