PARIS – France's prime minister plans to hold an emergency meeting to map out his country's response to the kidnapping of two French journalists in Iraq.
Yesterday militants released a tape showing the journalists. The kidnappers said they were holding the men to protest a French law which will begin banning Islamic head scarves in schools Wednesday. They gave the French government 48 hours to overturn the law, but otherwise mentioned no ultimatum.
The prime minister will be meeting with the interior minister and the foreign minister.
He's also scheduled to meet with leaders of the French Council for the Muslim Faith (search), which is an umbrella group that serves as a link to the government.
Its head has strongly condemned the kidnappings.
