Fire broke out Thursday in a transformer at a nuclear plant near Hamburg, the fire department said.

The fire in the transformer at the Kruemmel nuclear plant did not present a danger to the reactor itself, the department said, adding that the blaze was under control.

Ivo Banek, press spokesman for the plant, said the the cause of the fire was not known, but no nuclear materials were impacted by the fire.

Police told N24 news that the fire broke out in the transformer's coolant system and the entire reactor was shut down as a precaution. Further details were not immediately available.

No injuries were reported.
