CHICAGO – Two suspects have been arrested in a South Side bank robbery that exploded into gunfire, leaving a teller dead and two other people seriously wounded, a federal spokesman announced Friday.
The gunmen had been the targets of an intensive FBI investigation since they burst into the Illinois Service Federal Savings and Loan on May 22, got into a firefight with a guard and fled by car with what authorities called a small amount of cash.

U.S. attorney's office spokesman Randall Samborn announced Friday evening that two suspected bank robbers were in FBI custody but did not release their names.
Samborn declined to comment when asked about a third bank robber who took part in the holdup and subsequent firefight with the guard.
The male bank teller, 23-year-old Tremaine Gibson, was struck in the back and killed in the exchange of fire.
The FBI had offered a $50,000 reward in its five-week hunt for the robbers.

Samborn said one of the men would have an initial court appearance at 9 a.m. Saturday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael T. Mason. The other suspect's initial appearance is scheduled for Monday morning, Samborn said.
Samborn said the charges would be released in court along with the names of those arrested in the investigation.
Videotapes of the robbery showed the holdup men wearing black shirts and white gloves with what appeared to be stockings over their faces.
The getaway car was found several blocks away from the bank with an empty bank cash box, authorities said.
Samborn said the FBI planned to release a further statement Friday night.
