Howard Dean (search) was chastised for bringing up a theory that President Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks before they happened. But folks in Egypt not only talk about such theories, they sing about them. One of Egypt's most popular singers, Sha'ban Abd Al-Rahim, has just completed a CD that features his hit song, "Road Map," named after President Bush's Mideast peace plan.
The song repeats the popular Arab refrain that the 9/11 attacks were self-inflicted. About the destruction of the World Trade Centers, the singer exclaims, "Hey people it was only a tower and I swear by God that they are the ones who pulled it down."
According to the Middle East Media Research Institute, which provided a translation of the song, it goes on to suggest that the U.S. orchestrated the attacks to make people think that all Arabs and Muslims are terrorists.
"Now the U.S. can do what it pleases to the Arab world, since everyone thinks Arabs are to blame." All of the radio stations on which the song is played are controlled by the Egyptian government, which receives about $2 billion in U.S. aid every year.
