Former "Tonight Show" announcer Ed McMahon is in serious condition at a California hospital.

McMahon, 85, has been hospitalized for nearly a month for "pneumonia and other medical problems," a person close to the entertainer told TMZ.com.

McMahon's rep Howard Bragman confirmed the hospitalization to FOXNews.com.

"He is in the hospital. It is serious," Bragman said. "We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers."

McMahon is best known for being Johnny Carson's sidekick on the "Tonight Show" for three decades. Recently he has been in the news for his troubles keeping up with payments on his California mansion.

The TV star even did a self-deprecating spoof on the subject during this year's Super Bowl, when he starred in a commercial for Cash4Gold.com.
