Driving Instructor Charged With DWI in N.H.

The Nashua School District superintendent said Friday that a driving instructor charged with drunk driving concealed a previous drunk driving conviction.

Superintendent Joe Giuliano (search) said the instructor, Arthur Desmeules, 66, had his license suspended after a drunk driving conviction last year.

But he said the instructor hid and worked around a suspended license by claiming his eyes were giving him trouble. His fellow instructors agreed to handle his driving duties.

Giuliano fired Desmeules Thursday. He said the district would have acted quicker if officials had known about the earlier conviction.

The instructor faces several charges after he was arrested for driving drunk while on his way to pick up students for a driving lesson.
