German doctors say they have successfully removed a 40-pound malignant bone tumor from a Saudi Arabian woman.

Berlin surgeon Heinz Zurbruegg said Friday that the 35-year-old had only a few weeks to live when she arrived in Germany for care in September.

But he says that after five operations, no traces remain of the bone tumor that once ballooned from her pelvis and made up about a third of her total body weight. She now weighs 82 pounds.

The patient told reporters at a news conference Friday she couldn't believe the size of the tumor that had been removed and added she felt reborn.

The medical team said the patient was now well enough to return home.

They added that if follow-up exams continued to show no sign of a tumor, the next steps would be to reconstruct the woman's partially removed pelvis and give her an artificial hip
