Real Simple magazine's Anne-Marie O'Neill has these money-saving tips to make common household cleaners from items you already have at home:

1) Vegetable oil to shine leather

2) Kool-Aid to clean your dishwasher (with no dishes inside, the citric acid kills mold)

3) Citrus rinds to clean/sharpen garbage disposal (citric acid breaks up bacteria, smells nice)

4) Ketchup to shine copper (because it's slightly acidic)

5) Lemons to clean cutting boards and microwaves (can be used to sanitize because citric acid kills bacteria)

6) Vanilla extract to clean out your freezer

7) Baking soda to clean Tupperware and polish silver (cleans, deodorizes, scours, polishes, removes stains)

8) Vodka to take the must out of your sweaters (it's odorless, colorless and kills bacteria)
