Dartmouth College has received its largest gift ever — $50 million — from an anonymous family to build a visual arts center.

The center will break ground next year to become an intellectual and cultural hub for the Ivy League school.

Dartmouth President James Wright says it's a spectacular gift from a family that has given long service to Dartmouth.

The visual arts will expand programs in Studio Art and Film and Media Studies by consolidating the departments in one building. It will include classrooms, studios, offices, an auditorium and a 50-seat screening room.
