Prosecutors in Stuttgart say they have charged a Turkish man with holding his daughter against her will in an alleged effort to prevent her marrying a non-Muslim.

Prosecutor Bettina Vetter says the 45-year-old man took his daughter's passport and return-flight ticket and left her with relatives in Turkey. The 25-year-old woman is a German citizen.

She and her boyfriend were in Turkey when her father intervened and forced the boyfriend to return to Germany. The boyfriend alerted police when his girlfriend did not return as planned.

Vetter says the woman's father was arrested when he returned to Germany from Turkey. The daughter was then allowed to return.

Vetter declined Wednesday to identify the man or his daughter.
