East Hartford authorities say they probably won't continue a search for a man who disappeared after a minivan sank in the Connecticut River.
"I don't think we're going to search," Assistant Fire Chief William Perez said shortly before 8 a.m. Monday, according to Fox61.com.
"If he's in the water, it's a recovery at this point."
Police were called to a boat launch at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday and found the minivan nearly 150 feet down the river from the ramp. Dive teams searched all day for the man, but without success.
The driver's side window was found to be rolled down, Fox61.com reported.
Authorities have not released the name of the missing man, who they say is in his 50s. The van's owner is listed as living in Berlin, Conn.
Police talked to a man who claimed to have been a passenger in the van. He reportedly told them he had gotten into an argument with the driver before the van went into the river, Fox61.com reported.
Officers said the man gave conflicting reports, so they are not sure of the validity of his claims.
