Officers who went to a home to serve a search warrant found a skeleton in the bed where an 80-year-old woman said her mother was sleeping.

The decomposed body was believed to be that of the woman's 98-year-old mother, who hadn't been seen in at least three years.

The resident told officers who went to the home Wednesday to serve a search warrant for building, housing and health code violations that they couldn't enter because her mother was sleeping. After persuading the woman to let them in the house, the officials pulled back the blanket on the bed and found the skeleton.

The resident, whose name was withheld until her family was notified, was taken to St. Vincent Charity Hospital.

The name of the deceased woman, who was believed to have died of natural causes, wasn't immediately available. A message seeking her identity and the status of an autopsy was left Thursday at the Cuyahoga County coroner's office.

There was no immediate word on any charges in the case. A message was left at police headquarters.
