In addition to choosing a president and U.S. senator, Californians are facing 16 major ballot initiatives.

They include Proposition 63 (search), which would levy a one percent tax on personal incomes of $1 million to pay for mental health services. Also on the ballot are Propositions 68 and 70, which would expand the scope of casino gambling in the state.

Governor Schwarzenegger (search) has campaigned hard in recent weeks against Props 68 and 70 which he says would compromise his efforts to negotiate agreements with Indian gaming tribes.

The measure with the greatest national significance is Proposition 71 (search), which -tax groups and anti-abortion activists. Schwarzenegger has endorsed the measure.
