British Prime Minister Gordon Brown says efforts to boost oil and food production must top the agenda at next month's Group of Eight summit in Japan.

Brown, who was holding talks in London with Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, says the summit should also consider whether the production of biofuels should be reduced to help tame rising food prices.

Brown said Monday that both leaders hope to have developed a plan to combat rising food and energy costs by the start of the G-8 summit in northern Japan on July 7.

Fukuda says it is important that G-8 leaders send out a strong message that they are taking action over rising prices.
