Boy, 4, Takes Up Ballet After Losing Three Limbs

A little boy from Britain who lost three limbs due to meningitis has defied the odds and taken up ballet.

Four-year-old Harvey Phillips nearly died at nine months when the infection ravaged his body.

Doctors had to amputate his lower legs, right arm and the fingers on his left hand.

Harvey’s devastated mother Lisa feared his disability would mean he would never be able to play with friends or enjoy music and dance.

But the brave youngster proved her wrong after watching his older sister Kayla, 5, at ballet class.

He was so determined to take part that he took to the dance floor without his prosthetic limbs.

Now he is able to run, jump and twirl using custom-made plastic caps to protect his leg stumps.

The ballet classes have improved his posture and helped him walk.

“Harvey is strong headed,” his mom Lisa said. “If he wants to do something, he does it. He’s in his element when he’s being active and dancing. I’m so proud.”
