An explosion sparked a fire that roared through a Russian market Wednesday, injuring at least 20 people, according to reports.
Svetlana Gorbakova, a spokeswoman for investigators, says the fire at the central market in the capital of the Ingushetia province was caused by an explosion.
Reuters reported that one person was killed in the blast, but that number could not immediately be confirmed.
She said either a malfunctioning transformer or a burst gas cannister sparked the blaze in Nazran. She says it is too early to say whether the explosion was caused deliberately.
A Russian interior ministry source told Reuters that the cause of the blaze was a high-voltage power line hit a store and a nearby car, causing several explosions.
Ingushetia, in Russia's violent North Caucasus, is rocked by near-daily bomb blasts and gunbattles that authorities blame on local separatists.
