An armored car guard was shot and killed Monday during a robbery in which the shooter escaped on a bicycle.

Police believe the gunman was waiting for the Dunbar Armored (search) guard when he exited the AMC Theaters (search) multiplex in Ahwatukee, southeast of Phoenix, with the weekend's receipts.

Robert Keith Palomares, 24, who was wearing body armor, was struck multiple times, authorities said. He was attacked at about 10 a.m. The theater is at 48th Street and Ray Road.

He was flown to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center (search) and died soon after.

The gunman, dressed in dark clothing and described as about 25 years old, fled on a black-and-red mountain bike, witnesses told police.

He was described as carrying a black bag, presumably containing the money the guard had picked up.

A $1,000 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest, police said.

Authorities set up a perimeter and searched the area but did not make an arrest.
