The Army says it has kicked out a soldier accused of beating a Jewish trainee at Fort Benning in Georgia.

A Fort Benning spokesman said Monday the soldier received an administrative discharge in the beating of Pvt. Michael Handman. The spokesman declined to release the discharged soldier's name.

Handman was assaulted in September days after he complained of religious harassment in his basic training unit. The 20-year-old trainee from Atlanta had to be treated at an Army hospital for a concussion and bruising to his face.

Officials said last month that Handman's attacker had been punished administratively but refused to release further details, citing federal privacy laws.
