An Army captain pleaded guilty to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of military equipment and selling it to an Iraqi businessman.

Elbert W. George III, 36, of Suffolk, Va., pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to conspiracy to steal government property. He entered the plea in federal court in Alexandria.

George was a supply officer at an Army base in Iraq that disposed of excess military equipment.

Court records indicate that George and two other soldiers sold trucks, generators, trailers and other items to an Iraqi businessman, who paid them in $100 bills. The soldiers received anywhere from $400,000 to $1 million for the stolen items.
