An Illinois manhunt for armed escapee Robert Maday ended with his capture Friday after an intense manhunt, WFLD reported.

Mayday was taken was taken into custody by police after he allegedly hijacked a car and robbed a bank on Friday morning, nearly a day after he disarmed two officers and escaped custody while being transferred.

Local businesses and schools in the area surrounding Bloomingdale, Ill., were on lockdown as authorities hunted for the fugitive, police tell FOX News.

FBI agents were called to the scene after Maday allegedly robbed a First American Bank branch.

Earlier Friday morning, a woman was driving to her job in a business complex in the Illinois town when she saw a man sitting on a nearby curb. As she opened the door, the man approached her, showed her a gun and she gave him her car, WFLD reported.

She later identified the man as Maday. The woman was not harmed in the carjacking.
